← Electrical Advice & Planning
Finalize bathroom equipment, vanity drawings and control locations before electrical rough-in. Heated floors, washlets, fans, mirrors and lighting have product-specific requirements. Coordinating them early helps the electrical, plumbing, tile and millwork teams avoid conflicting layouts.
For Toronto and GTA renovations, share the final selections with your Licensed Electrical Contractor. Circuit design, electrical protection and placement must meet the applicable Ontario Electrical Safety Code and manufacturer instructions.
Provide the equipment specifications
Create a list of the selected toilet or bidet seat, floor-heating system, ventilation fan, illuminated mirrors, towel warmer and any specialty equipment. Include model numbers and installation instructions.
Identify what is supplied by the homeowner and what belongs in the electrical quote. Tell the team about substitutions before installation, particularly where dimensions, connection positions or supply requirements change.
Coordinate heated floors with the final layout
Show the vanity, bathtub, shower and other fixed features on the floor plan. The heated area must follow the selected system’s instructions. For example, Schluter identifies restrictions beneath certain fixtures and enclosed areas where heat can build up.
Have the heating layout, thermostat and sensor provisions reviewed before tile work proceeds. Ask who installs each component and who completes and records the manufacturer’s required tests through installation.
Do not assume the room’s total floor area equals the area to be heated. Confirm the product and layout before ordering the heating equipment.
Plan washlet or bidet power with the plumbing
Provide the exact model so the electrician can establish the supply, protection and outlet position. Coordinate the cord and water connection with the toilet installation and surrounding cabinetry.
An outlet should not be positioned solely because it looks discreet on an elevation. Review reach, access and installation requirements together. Avoid relying on an extension cord or adapter as the planned solution.
Clarify whether the electrical scope includes only the supply work or any equipment installation. Plumbing and final product installation should be assigned separately where applicable.
Select ventilation and controls together
Discuss how the bathroom will be ventilated, where the fan will sit and who handles ducting and the exterior termination. Electrical connection is only part of the completed ventilation installation.
Choose the operating method: manual control, countdown timer or a compatible sensor arrangement. Panasonic WhisperGreen Select offers model-specific modules, including a condensation sensor using humidity and temperature information. Confirm compatibility with the exact fan.
Ask how the selected controls will work day to day and whether there are settings to demonstrate at completion. An automatic feature should be part of a clear operating plan.
Coordinate mirrors, vanities and lighting
Review mirror dimensions, sconce positions, vanity heights and millwork openings together. Obtain instructions for illuminated mirrors or cabinets before deciding where connections will go.
Plan useful face lighting and general room illumination, then discuss dimming or a separate night-light function if desired. Fixtures near bathing areas need suitable ratings and placement for the installation.
If a makeup vanity includes a specialty outlet product, share its specifications before the cabinetmaker cuts an opening. Mounting and electrical arrangements need to be checked for the selected product.
| Item | Decision before rough-in |
|---|---|
| Floor heating | System, heated layout, thermostat, sensor and testing responsibilities. |
| Washlet or bidet | Model, electrical supply, outlet position and plumbing coordination. |
| Ventilation | Fan, ducting responsibilities and compatible controls. |
| Mirrors and fixtures | Dimensions, connection points, ratings and control functions. |
| Finishing sequence | Review milestones, inspection arrangements and installation responsibilities. |
Confirm the rough-in before walls close
Arrange a walkthrough with the current drawings and record agreed changes. Check that electrical positions align with the final vanity, plumbing and tile layout.
Coordinate applicable ESA review before concealment, then confirm the finishing sequence. Keep equipment instructions and floor-heating test records with the project documents for future service.
