Designed for evenings outside

A landscape worth enjoying.
Long after sunset.

Thoughtful lighting reveals the shape of a tree, guides you along a path and makes a patio feel inviting. We plan the view from inside your home as well as the experience outside, balancing useful light with atmosphere.

For Toronto gardens, GTA backyards and properties in Simcoe County and Muskoka, we coordinate fixture placement, cable routes, transformer capacity and controls with your landscaping and the way you use the space.

Premium brands we install

Kichler & in-lite.
Chosen around your property.

Kichler landscape lighting

Kichler offers low-voltage accent, path, hardscape, deck and patio lighting. We select fixtures, finishes and beam distributions to complement your planting, architecture and outdoor living areas. Equipment and transformer choices are tailored to the layout.

in-lite outdoor lighting

in-lite combines refined outdoor fixtures with a coordinated low-voltage system. Options include spotlights, path lights, recessed lights and undercap lighting. Compatible SMART HUB systems offer control through the in-lite app; the SMART HUB-300 can control three cable zones separately.

These are brands we regularly install. We help select the right products for your project, with attention to the light effect, installation details and future service access.

Layers of outdoor light

Highlight the details.
Keep the atmosphere.

Trees & garden accents

Uplighting and carefully aimed spotlights bring out branches, textures and planting. We choose beam spread and placement around each feature, with attention to glare from windows and seating.

Paths, steps & entrances

Path lights, recessed fixtures and step lighting help define routes and changes in level. The layout considers useful coverage, fixture spacing and how the fittings look during the day.

Patios, decks & hardscape

Integrated light along walls, benches and steps can give outdoor living areas depth. We coordinate mounting and cable access before stonework, decking and landscaping are complete.

String lights & entertaining

Warm outdoor string lights can make a patio or cottage gathering area feel welcoming. We plan suitable power, fixture support and convenient switching around your layout.

Lutron Caséta outdoors

String lights. Christmas lights.
One convenient control.

The Lutron Caséta Outdoor Smart Plug offers convenient on/off control for compatible plug-in outdoor string lights, Christmas lights and other seasonal lighting. Pair it with a compatible Pico remote for simple control from inside, or add a Caséta smart hub for Lutron app control and schedules.

Patio string lighting

Turn compatible outdoor string lights on and off without walking outside to unplug them. We can help coordinate the outdoor plug, power location and remote with the way you entertain.

Christmas & seasonal lights

With a Caséta smart hub, set schedules in the Lutron app, including sunrise and sunset timing. We check the connected load and installation location before recommending the plug for your display.

Switching, rather than dimming: the outdoor smart plug provides on/off control. It plugs into a suitable GFCI-protected outlet; connected lighting must stay within the product’s applicable load rating. We review weather exposure, the manufacturer’s operating limits and the suitability of the outdoor connections.

Some landscape transformers may also be suitable for external switching, but compatibility must be checked. in-lite SMART HUB systems use their own app and control features; Caséta should not be assumed to provide native integration or individual control of those zones.

Landscape lighting design

Different techniques.
A balanced evening view.

A layered design gives each light a purpose. We combine focal points with quieter areas, considering views from the house, patio and approach to the property.

Uplighting & moonlighting

Uplights draw attention to trees and architectural features. Downlights mounted above a space can create a softer moonlight effect through branches and leaves. Placement, shielding and aiming help keep the light comfortable.

Wall washing & grazing

A wash spreads light across a wall or hedge. Grazing places light close to a textured surface to reveal the relief of stone or brick. We choose the technique around the material and the view.

Shadowing & silhouettes

Light in front of planting can cast shadows onto a wall. Lighting the background instead can reveal the outline of a distinctive tree or sculpture. Both add depth without lighting every surface equally.

Paths, borders & hardscape

Path lights can illuminate walking routes and nearby planting. Concealed hardscape fixtures bring light beneath wall caps, benches and steps. The aim is useful visibility with discreet placement.

Choose the light effect

The right fixture.
The right amount of light.

Beam spread & brightness

A narrow beam suits a focused feature; a wider beam covers more of a canopy or surface. Lumens describe light output, while watts describe energy use. We select both around the effect you want.

Warm, coordinated colour

Colour temperature describes how warm or cool the light appears. Warm white around 2700K is a common residential choice. We compare it with existing exterior lighting before selecting fixtures.

Integrated or replaceable lamps

Integrated LED fixtures contain their light source. Lamp-ready models accept replaceable lamps, offering flexibility in beam and colour selection. We discuss serviceability and replacement options for the specific product.

Materials & mounting

Finish, construction and mounting affect the daytime appearance too. Ground stakes, surface mounts and recessed fittings suit different locations. Selection accounts for traffic, gardening and long-term access.

Low-voltage systems & smart zones

Plan the system.
Enjoy the control.

in-lite’s landscape system uses a transformer to convert the 120V supply to 12V for compatible fixtures. We plan the equipment together: transformer, cable routes, connections and lighting locations.

Capacity & cable distances

We total fixture loads and check the selected transformer’s overall and per-output limits. Cable length, size and the manufacturer’s routing limits shape the layout. Planning before landscaping is complete helps avoid difficult routes and allows for future additions.

Separate areas, simple operation

Compatible in-lite SMART HUB models allow cable zones to switch separately in the in-lite app. A layout might group the entrance, garden accents and patio on different outputs. The SMART HUB-300 offers three separately controlled cable outputs; the equipment and load allocation must suit the project.

Transformer placement also matters. We keep equipment accessible and follow the manufacturer’s requirements for a covered location or suitable protective enclosure. We explain your selected controls during commissioning.

Plan the installation

Beautiful light begins
with careful preparation.

Layout & visual comfort

Consider the view from windows, seating and neighbouring properties. We aim fixtures to limit unnecessary upward light and light spill, and coordinate colour temperature across the space.

Power & cable planning

Review the supply, transformer location, connected loads and cable distances. We coordinate new wiring routes with landscaping and discuss access, excavation and any finish restoration in the scope.

Control & commissioning

Select suitable timers, app controls or smart switching for the equipment. We test the installation and adjust aiming after dark where practical, then explain everyday operation.

Maintenance & future changes

Keep transformers and connections accessible, allow for plant growth and consider future additions. We can also assess existing systems with failed fixtures, damaged cables or control problems.

Frequently asked

Outdoor lighting,
clearly explained.

Can you add lighting to an existing garden?

Yes. We review the layout, access and existing power, then explain cable-routing options and any disturbance or restoration involved.

Do you install both Kichler and in-lite?

Yes. Electric FX regularly installs these brands and can help compare suitable fixtures and system options for your property.

Can Caséta dim my outdoor string lights?

The Caséta Outdoor Smart Plug switches compatible loads on and off. Dimming requires a different, suitable combination of lighting and control equipment.

Do I need a smart hub?

A Caséta smart hub is required for Lutron app control and schedules. Compatible Pico remote control is available without the hub. in-lite smart systems have their own equipment and app requirements.

What affects installation cost?

Fixture quantity, brand and model, cable distances, transformer capacity, new power requirements, controls and access all affect the quote. Photos and a landscape plan help us begin.

Can lighting be coordinated with a larger project?

Yes. We work with homeowners, landscapers, designers and builders. Bring us in early for custom homes and renovations, while routes and mounting details can still be planned.
