More than brighter rooms

Light for the way
you live.

Good lighting helps you prepare dinner, read comfortably, highlight artwork and settle into the evening. It also brings out the materials and architectural details you chose for your home.

Electric FX helps homeowners, designers and builders coordinate fixture placement, light output, colour temperature, dimming and switching. We consider daylight, furniture, ceiling heights and finishes before deciding where the lights should go.

Whether you are updating an existing room or planning a residential renovation or custom home, we build the lighting around your space.

A layered approach

Four layers.
One considered result.

01 · Ambient

Comfortable overall light

Recessed lighting, ceiling fixtures and indirect light establish the room’s general illumination without relying on one overly bright source.

02 · Task

Light where you need it

Under-cabinet lighting, vanity lighting and focused fixtures help illuminate counters, mirrors, desks and reading areas.

03 · Accent

Details worth noticing

Wall washing, art lighting and shelf lighting draw attention to textures, displays and architectural features.

04 · Decorative

Fixtures with personality

Pendants, chandeliers and sconces complement your interiors, with mounting locations and proportions coordinated before installation.

Lighting services

From rough-in
to the final glow.

We install new lighting, replace existing fixtures and resolve lighting problems in Toronto and the GTA. The scope is tailored to the building, access and finish requirements.

Recessed lighting

Pot lights & downlights

Layouts, beam angles, trim styles and fixture depth considered alongside joists, insulation, ducts and ceiling details.

Integrated lighting

LED strips & millwork

Under-cabinet, shelf, cove and architectural LED lighting with coordinated channels, diffusers and accessible drivers.

Decorative fixtures

Pendants, chandeliers & sconces

Fixture installation and replacement, including mounting support, switching and placement around furniture and cabinetry.

Kitchens & bathrooms

Practical everyday light

Countertop, island, vanity, mirror and shower lighting selected for the location and coordinated with the room’s finishes.

Outdoor spaces

Landscape & garden lighting

Path lights, tree uplighting, garden accents, deck lighting and patio fixtures. We coordinate fixture positions, cable routes, transformers and timers to bring out the landscape without unnecessary glare.

Comfort & circulation

Ceiling fans & fan lights

New installations and replacements, with mounting support, ceiling height, blade clearances and compatible fan controls reviewed before work begins. Send the fan model and a photo of the existing location so we can plan the installation.

Safer routes

Step, stair & pathway lights

Discrete lighting for indoor stairs, exterior steps, landings and walking routes. We consider light direction, spacing, access for wiring and suitable fixtures for each location.

After dark

Security & motion lights

Floodlights, motion-sensor fixtures and dusk-to-dawn controls for entrances, garages and driveways. We position and aim the lights for useful coverage, with attention to nearby windows and neighbouring properties.

Architectural exterior lighting

Exterior soffit pot lights

Recessed lighting for soffits, covered porches and exterior architectural details. Fixture ratings, access, beam direction and switching are planned around the building and exposure to weather.

Seasonal & year-round

Holiday lighting & roofline power

Plan outdoor receptacles, suitable protection and timers for seasonal displays, or discuss permanent roofline lighting options. We review the proposed system, access and electrical scope. Temporary decorative lights should be used and removed according to their instructions.

Focused illumination

Track, picture & display lighting

Adjustable track heads, picture lights and display fixtures for artwork, shelving, retail spaces and home offices. We match aiming and light distribution to the objects and surfaces you want to highlight.

Existing spaces

Upgrades & troubleshooting

LED upgrades, dimmer changes, flickering-light diagnosis and lighting repairs. Book an electrical service call for an existing issue.

Plan the details early

Beautiful lighting
starts with coordination.

We work with your designer, builder and millworker to resolve the details that are difficult to change after drywall and cabinetry are complete.

  • Colour and light qualityCoordinate colour temperature, colour rendering and output so adjacent fixtures feel consistent.
  • Comfort and glareConsider beam spread, fixture position and sightlines from seating and work areas.
  • Drivers and installation detailsPlan driver access, wiring routes, channel dimensions and fixture support before finishes conceal them.
  • Dimming and compatibilityMatch fixtures, LED drivers and controls to reduce compatibility problems and achieve useful dimming.
Simple, useful control

The right light.
At the right moment.

Separate lighting zones let you use task lighting when you need it and soften the room later. Dimmers and scenes make those changes easier to repeat.

Electric FX installs and supports Lutron Caséta, RadioRA 2 and RadioRA 3 lighting controls. We can plan coordinated scenes and schedules that fit your lifestyle, with keypads and app control where appropriate.

We explain how to use the completed system and provide support for adjustments, changes and additions after installation.

Our process

Planned carefully.
Finished beautifully.

  1. 01

    Understand the space

Review your rooms, drawings, existing lighting, priorities and preferred fixtures.

  2. 02

    Coordinate the details

Confirm locations, switching, dimming, wiring access and responsibilities with the project team.

  3. 03

    Install and fine-tune

Complete the installation, test operation and review controls with you. Identify any finishing work within the agreed scope.

Choosing your pot lights

Gimbal, slim or regressed?
Start with the room.

The best choice depends on where the light needs to land, ceiling space and how comfortable the fixture looks from normal viewing positions.

Adjustable

Gimbal pot lights

A tilting or rotating light source lets us direct the beam toward artwork, cabinetry or another feature. Adjustment limits vary by model. Useful for targeted accents and selected sloped-ceiling applications.

Low profile

Slim / flat pot lights

A shallow fixture can help where ceiling space is limited. Many models use a broad diffuser for general lighting. We still check the driver space, insulation rating and manufacturer’s installation requirements.

Visual comfort

Regressed downlights

The light source sits farther back inside the trim. Well-designed optics and shielding can reduce direct glare and make the ceiling feel less bright. Regressed fixtures may be fixed or adjustable.

Designed together

More than the trim

Output, beam distribution, colour temperature, colour rendering and dimmer compatibility all influence the result. We consider the whole fixture rather than choosing by diameter or wattage alone.

Understanding beam angles

A focused accent.
Or a broader wash.

Beam angle describes the spread of the light, not how far the fixture tilts. At the same distance, a narrower beam covers a smaller area; a wider beam spreads light across a larger area. Ceiling height, output, room finishes and overlapping beams also matter.

Narrow example

24°

A more concentrated accent for selected objects or details. Placement and aiming matter to avoid a bright spot in the wrong place.

Medium examples

38°–50°

A wider pool of light for features or a coordinated downlight layout. The right spacing depends on the actual product and mounting height.

Wide example

110°

A broad spread found in some slim downlights. Useful for general coverage, but a wide beam alone does not guarantee even lighting or low glare.

Model-specific choices

Check the optics

Liteline ORBIT 2 offers 24°, 38° and 50° options; SlimLED Original specifies 110°. These are product examples, not universal angles for every gimbal or slim fixture.

Manufacturer references: Liteline ORBIT 2 beam options and SlimLED Original specifications. We confirm the current specifications of your selected fixture before installation.

One coordinated project

Lighting, power
and control.

Combine lighting with residential electrical renovations, custom home electrical planning and Lutron lighting controls. If your project adds substantial electrical loads, we can also assess service and panel upgrade needs.

Lighting questions

Clear answers.
Better decisions.

Can you help plan lighting or work from my designer’s drawings?

Yes. We can help develop a practical lighting layout or coordinate installation from your designer’s drawings and fixture schedule. Sharing plans early helps us identify wiring, mounting and control details.

Can you add pot lights without a full renovation?

Often, yes. Access above the ceiling, existing wiring, insulation and framing affect the approach. We assess the room and explain where access openings or finish repairs may be necessary before work begins.

Can you install light fixtures I have purchased?

Yes, subject to suitability for the location, mounting requirements and approval for use in Ontario. Send the product specifications and photos before booking so we can review the installation requirements.

Why do my LED lights flicker or buzz when dimmed?

Possible causes include incompatible dimmers or drivers, lamp issues and wiring faults. We assess the equipment and installation to identify the cause rather than assuming every light needs replacement.

Can you install LED strips in cabinetry and shelves?

Yes. The best results come from coordinating channels, diffusion, wiring and driver locations with the millworker before fabrication. We can also assess options for existing cabinetry.

Do all the lights in a room need the same colour temperature?

A coordinated approach usually feels more cohesive, particularly where fixtures illuminate the same surfaces. We can discuss the atmosphere you want and how different lamps and finishes affect the result.

Can you combine lighting upgrades with smart controls?

Yes. We can plan lighting and compatible Lutron controls together, or assess how an existing installation can be upgraded.

Do you work on commercial lighting?

Yes. Contact us about lighting for offices, studios, retail spaces and other commercial interiors. We review operating needs, access and scheduling to define a suitable scope.
